Farm planning is the foundation of farm management. Farm planning proceeds all other managerial functions. It decides in advance on the production management problems viz. i) what to produce ii) how to produce iii) when to produce; financial management problems viz, i) how to borrow ii) how much to borrow iii) when to borrow iv) where to borrow and marketing management problems viz., i) where to buy and sell ii) when to buy and sell iii) how to buy and sell, etc. Farm planning bridges the gap from where we are to where we want to go.  Without setting the objectives and line of action to be followed, there is nothing to organize of farm business. It is the determination of a course of fiction to achieve the desired results. Therefore, we can say, “Farm planning is the deliberate process of thinking, the organize foresight and the vision based on facts and past experience that is needed for intelligent action on the farm.

Factors/points to be considered during farm planning

 
Some factors that are needed to consider in the farm planning. They are stated below.
1. The farm should be large as well as more productive so that it can provide more profit.
For proper management of the farm there should be an office where the necessary works can be done.
2. If the farm is bigger, there should be some blocks provided with a sub office. The farm place should be suitable for farming activities.
3. The plot of land should be divided according to the morphology and soil type. The land should be leveled properly and then each division should be supplied with proper crops.
4. In the farm, there should be the storage facilities for farm products to be stored, shade for keeping implements, bullock shade and the sufficient rooms for keeping pesticides, fertilizers and other materials.
5. There must be threshing floor in a suitable place on the farm.
6. Irrigation, drainage should be constructed properly or irrigation. There should be deep tube-well or pond or both for irrigation.
7. Fresh drinking water supply should be available on the farm.
8. There should be separate pond for rotting jute.
9. Internal communication on the farm should be developed.
